Vayetzeh- How to make God laugh

Man plans and God laughs." Der mentsh trakht un Got lakht.- Yiddish proverb

At the start of this week's parsha Yackov (Jacob) is on the run. He is fleeing from his older brother Esav's wrath. Yackov is compeled to leave the comfort of his home and put his studies on hold. He is forced to go out in to the world and work, get married and raise a family.

Dikembe Mutombo attended Georgetown University originally he was pre-Med and  intended to become a doctor to help his fellow citizens in the Congo. He was over 7 feet tall and was recruited  to play for the college basketball  team. He thought the best way to help his people was to learn medicine . Mutombo enjoyed a greatly successful basketball career and turned out to be one of the greatest shot blockers of all time, a skill underutilized in the medical profession.

It turned out that blocking shots during a basketball game was how Mutombo could help his people. His humanitarian efforts have had a huge impact on the health of the people in the entire Congo region. Among his other projects, in 2007 Dikembe Mutombo helped open a 300 bed, $29 million dollar hospital that employs hundreds of doctors.

Yackov was forced to leave the path he was going down. He had to enter the "real world" and was forced to live with the wicked Lavan and work the land. Yackov had not planned on working for Lavan and marrying both Rachel and Leah. Often times we have a plan for our life and it must be altered for one reason or another. Nothing happens by accident and there are no coincidences "in life there are no wrong turns, only paths we had not known we were meant to walk"- Guy Gavriel

Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview. (what are you saying, I am not fancy?)
