This Week in Jerusalem

There are no words to describe the events that transpired this week. I was in shock when I heard the news and I was disgusted when I saw the pictures.

In this week’s Parsha  Rifkah inquires with God (Her OBGYN) about the struggle ensuing in her belly while she is pregnant.  She is told “You have two nations within you... When one triumphs the other will struggle..."

My son Jacob began school three months ago. He has learned many wonderful ideas, some from his new friends, like about Ninjas. Along with Ninjas came the idea of bad guys and good guys. This is not something I wanted to introduce him to yet. Sometimes it is an oversimplification to label someone a "Good Guy" or a "Bad Guy”. People are complex, but this past week especially after viewing those photos, I feel like sometimes things are very simple.

A great teacher can explain to you complex ideas so they seem simple and concepts you thought were simple can be immensely complex. When I first began to study the conflict in the Middle East I realized it was an incredibly complicated situation, but the more I think about it, I feel as though it is very simple. It is a struggle between good and evil, between love and hate, between Yackov and Esav, between life and death.

This is not a struggle between Muslims and Jews, between Israelis and Palestinians, between terrorists and soldiers. It is a struggle between those who build and those who destroy, between those who cherish life and protect it and those that desire death and destruction.

“Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us” - Golda Meir

Fight for life!

This week I will cherish my life.

Shabbat Shalom

Many Arabs find that, under Israeli law, lands that were once theirs, that they could come and go at will, are not their's anymore and the travels and trade of honest men are much more restricted. Is this not a form of evil?
