At the end of last week's parsha Miriam was punished for saying Lashon Hara (negative speech). Her punishment was seclusion, the entire nation stopped traveling to wait for her. In this week's parsha spies are sent to the land of Israel and they too speak Lashon hara. The spies did not internalize the lesson of Miriam.
However there were two spies who did not speak lashon hara, Yehoshua and Calev. Unlike the other spies, Yehoshua received a blessing from Moshe before the trip. Why didn't Moshe give Calev a blessing too?
Because Calev was married to Miriam. He internalized the lesson that was illustrated from Miriam's punishment. The protection of a wife is as strong as the blessing of Moshe.
