Devarim- Said no more counting dollars, We'll be counting stars

In this week's Parsha Moshe compares the Jewish people to stars. How is a human being similar to a giant gasious ball of light?

One answer Kerry Newman taught me is that the Jews are to be a "light onto the nations". To provide moral guidance to the world is the role of the Jewish people. Also just as star light travels a great distance and has its origin in the past so to the Jewish people and the Torah are ancient yet still provide illumination today.

Rav Sandler also gives an answer. He says that stars seem very small and insignificant when we look at them from Earth, because they are so far away. However if we come close to a star, if we really see all the Chessed and Mitzvot a Jew does every day, by coming close to them , then we will see how truly great each and every Jew is.

You are a star that illuminates all those around you! You are a light to all who know you.
