Vayakel/ Pekudi

Picture

* When he was a small child, someone once challenged Rav Yitzchak Meir of Gur.  I will give you one coin if you tell me where Hashem is.  He replied, I will give you two coins if you tell me where Hashem is not.

2. Why do I have to go to shul if Hashem is everywhere? I should be able to pray at home in my bed.

3. Rabbi Sussman gives an analogy. If President Obama visits you at your home he is president of the country and of every home. However, if you meet him at the White House it has a different feeling because of the environment.

Environment can greatly influence our mind-state.

Shepard Siegal of Mcmaster University discovered a correlation among heroine overdose cases. One variable was prevalent in many cases involving heavy users. Often times the dosage was not extraordinary but the fact the victim was in an unusual location is what caused the overdose.

Today's Mishkan, the shul is for us, not for Hashem. I went to the White House a few weeks ago, it  is about American pride not just the place the president to lives.  The Sefer Hachinuch explains one reason Hashem commands us to build a sanctuary is to have a place..

"  To purify the thoughts of people and to direct their hearts to him."

When we are in a location specifically to pray and use for holy purposes it puts us in a different mindset when we enter it.

This week seek out a location where you can be still, where you can be silent, where you can be spiritual
