"Who is happy ? One who is content with there lot." -Wisdom of the Fathers
Why are we so happy on Simchat Torah?
We read from two Torah portions on Simchat Torah. One from the last book and one from the first book. The beginning and the end of the Torah. As soon as we finish learning the last book we begin the first book.
This seems to be the opposite of being content with our lot. We are learning the Torah over and over never resting, never standing still.
This ceaseless study, this endless exploration is our lot to always be improving, striving for more, and that is why we rejoice on Simchat Torah. The Torah is a never ending treasure trove of wonder and wisdom, With every cycle we discover new layers of meaning and depths we never conceived of.
The more I learn Torah the more I love Torah. The more I love Torah the more I learn Torah.
