Time connects soul to space....
1. A transition is made from slavery to freedom this week in Parshat Bo. The Jews leave Egypt and are given there first official commandment as a nation. They are instructed to bless the new moon, to create a calendar system.
2. Why is this the first commandment given to the Jews as a nation, to create a calendar system? Why not something more fundamental like brit Milah (circumcision), Tefillin, Shabbat, Pesach or reciting the Shema?
3. Time is the fabric of existence. The calendar system is the most fundamental of all commandments.
3. The Torah begins with the creation of time. The first Mishnah, the first word of the Torah She Baal Peh (oral tradition) in Brachot, begins with the question, at what TIME can we recite the evening Shema? If we don't know when the new month is we can't calculate Pesach. We must calculate the sunrise and sunset to put on tefillin or say the morning Shema. Shabbat and brit milah are centered on the day of the week. All of these commands revolve around the calendar.
"The key is investing time, not spending it." - Stephen Covey
3. Hashem was motivating the Jews. Today is the first month of the rest of your life. Don't waste your time. It is precious. It is fundamental. It is divine. You are given a golden opportunity, until now your time was not your own you had masters, you were slaves. You are now free, when you are enslaved in prison it is called doing time. Hashem gave the Jews the gift of time.
"Time is free, but it is priceless. You can’t own it but you can use it, you cant keep it but you can spend it, once you’ve lost it , you can never get it back" - Harvey Mackay
Summary:
Time is the fundamental aspect of physical reality and the most valuable natural resource.
Q: Is time something physical?
Is time objective or subjective?
Please give me feedback, if you have the time.
